Mountain athletics have defined my adult life, from fast and light pushes on the Colorado 14ers, to technical Teton and Montana high points, to first ski descents in the Alaska Range.
I’m comfortable on any medium, but most inspired by long days with nothing but a small pack and running shoes, testing my limits and finding the edge of possibility between the earth and the sky.
When approaching mountain objectives, I’m driven equally by the summit and the experience, focusing on immersion and presence in the mountains with a possible outcome of success. As important to me is the process in advance - gaining clarity on my motivations, being honest about my fitness and abiolities, and narrowing down the gear list to take everything I need & nothing I don’t, a practice that brings me to the sharp end. Alongside writing, mountains are the best format I have for expressing my creativity.
